Under the Milky Way

This song is gorgeous. It's really 80's but doesn't sound dated. Steve Kilbey has a really mellow, deep, soothing voice, perfectly suited for this track. It's simple. I love it.

This Mess We're In

Thom Yorke is just all shades of brilliant. Great song.

This song by Grizzly Bear is sublime.

Bowie of the day

No You Girls

Kind of behind. Working on a sporadic posting schedule, 'pparently. Anyway. I just now saw the video for this.
Ridiculous, awesome video. Also Franz Ferdinand couldn't be sexier. OMG. I can't wait to see them live again.

Is There Something I Should Know?

I feel sad that I've never taken Duran Duran seriously. I guess for some reason I saw them as an 80's novelty band. But dude! I KNOW they're good, why didn't I ever follow those instincts? Hell if I know. Have this song. I've loved it since I was 15.

(And the official video can't be embedded because of EMI restrictions, but I recommend that. It's awesome)

My bad.

I was on an unofficial hiatus from blogging. I'm back. Sorta. But nobody reads this blog anyway.

Jealous Guy

I have fallen back in love with this song. It nearly brings me to tears every time I listen.

Yoko Ono may have put a strain on The Fab Four, but she was certainly a valuable inspiration to John. He wrote some amazing love songs post-Beatles.

Bowie of the day

The Headmaster Ritual (as covered by Radiohead)

I know I tacked a Radiohead tune yesterday, but I can't get enough of this song today. And not just this song, but this cover version. Radiohead's just fucking great. And they couldn't have picked a better song to cover.

These Are My Twisted Words

The newest track from my most favorite (active) band ever, Radiohead. Seriously guys. It's great.

(You can download the track for free HERE)

A track from one of my all-time favorite bands The Cure. Off "Pornography"

Got Nuffin

I dig Spoon a lot. On the youtube page for this, there is some comparison to Joy Division, which could be a reason I like it so much. (and also--how effin' cool is that album art?)

Wonderwall

Oasis has finished. Maybe Liam Gallagher will find a nice quiet hobby now.

Heroes

While on Vacation a couple weeks back I listened to this song more than usual. I've had "Fashion" running through my head all day, but I've been meaning to post this song for longer. So. Heroes wins.
Also Bowie is hot in this video. Damn.

Strange Overtones

A brilliant collaboration by New Wave legends Brian Eno and David Byrne

They Done Wrong/We Done Wrong

I remember one night I spent about 2 hours listening to this song over and over. The instrumentals in the middle remind me of something I might play on the piano (not to hype up my own songwriting skills or anything, which are few). But that's probably why it stuck with me so hard.

Ruled by Secrecy

Since I finally listened to the album Absolution (by Muse) a week ago, this song stuck out the most. The piano solo is stunning. I can't stop listening to it.

I have a crush on every boy.

I definitely have a type. Here's Stephen Morris (drummer for Joy Division/New Order), Alex James (bassist for Blur) and Jonny Greenwood (guitarist for Radiohead)... I sure have a thing for lanky british guys with black floppy hair yeah? I could even make a case for Dee Dee Ramone... In some instances...

Love Vigilantes

Soo as with the Blur track I posted about in the beginning, this has a story. It could be considered as crazy, I suppose:
First time I heard this song it was in the form of a cover by Iron & Wine. A few nights ago I was at my most favorite place to be on a Wednesday night and heard the New Order version. Didn't realize it was New Order. Googled the lyrics yesterday and found the song, then I was like "This is good. I wonder what album it is on.." So I checked, and saw that it is on the album Low-Life. I also took note of the CD cover. Just a picture of Stephen Morris. K.
Later in the day I went to Cheapo to look for some tapes (I listen to tapes in the car, and it's a cheap way to get old, good albums. It doesn't always work, though), didn't find any, went upstairs to look at CDs, and out of some odd work of fate, Low-Life was staring me in the face--not in the New Order section, but in the recent arrivals section. I was like, okay I gotta get it! So I did. And now I finally own a New Order album.

Wrong Road

Heard this song by The Go-Betweens on the radio today and was completely transfixed. Ooh. Beautiful. Love the 80's.

Boys and Girls

Here's my track of the day. Early in the morning of Wednesday, the fifth, I was listening to Blur's album Parklife, then went to my parents' house to pick up my sister, but she was not ready, so I watched the video for the song "Parklife" on the family computer. I was like "I want to watch the video for Boys and Girls too.." But I didn't. I think it was because she was at last ready to leave. I lamented the fact that I had no Blur to listen to in the car, and I thought "they should totally play Blur on the radio..." And within like 15 minutes of that thought, they were seriously PLAYING THIS SONG ON THE RADIO. And I was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I've never heard them played on my station (89.3 The Current)... Understandably, I had a pretty geeky moment. That is why this is the track of the day. And I unfortunately don't know any of the lyrics apart from the chorus (which I had to write down to memorize... It's tough)

Two Doves

Decidedly an odd track to start the blog with. I normally don't go for indie-folk-pop, but this is pretty. And it's a perfect slow, organic Summer track. Enjoy.

hello.

let me just say that I am not the first person who should have a music blog. I'm not exactly up to date on everything. I don't read other music blogs or listen to leaked albums or try and get my hands on every new piece of audio, nor do I go to shows. Not to mention I have like 3 other blogs I struggle to keep up with on a daily basis (about things I have slightly more authority on..), BUT... I just find I have things to say sometimes about music, and I generally have nowhere to voice these opinions. So, welcome to Sound+Vision.

And yeah, the title is a bit contrived as it's also a David Bowie song. But it fits well. I love David Bowie and this is a blog of sound and vision. Ta da!

Now that we got that out of the way...
